Livery Company
3211 Cherokee St., St Louis, MO 63118
When the Livery Company opened its doors in Benton Park West in July, its combination cocktail lounge and music club brought a fresh face to a classic concept. While clever concoctions are slung at the bar, a main attraction for stopping in the Livery is its focus on featuring live music, including performances by local bands and musicians as well as regular karaoke and open-mic nights. From a musician's standpoint, approaching a crowd can be a bit intimidating, but it's hard to feel ill at ease at the Livery, thanks to its open-mic organizer and host, St. Louis folk singer Suzie Gilb. (Known to fans as Suzie Cue.) She formerly hosted an open-mic at now-defunct Al Waha Restaurant and Hookah Lounge in Tower Grove South and has palpable passion for live music. Her outgoing demeanor makes open-mic at the Livery an electrifying event — the number of patrons and performers is steadily climbing. The festivities happen bi-monthly, on the second and fourth Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Performers are asked to sign up upon arrival for ten to fifteen minutes of fame.
