Best Mall

The success of one mall can be the death knell for another shopping center. Just look at the Saint Louis Galleria's rise in popularity in the 1990s and contrast that to Crestwood Plaza's downward spiral during the same decade. So when West County Center transformed itself a few years back into the Shangri-La of suburban shopping, many questioned the long-term viability of the nearby Chesterfield Mall. They need not have worried themselves. Chesterfield Mall is alive and well. Earlier this year the mall pulled off a coup when it became home to the first American Girl store in the area, adding to its status as a tween haven with a Gymboree, Justice, Claire's and Delia's. But it's not just the shopping that makes Chesterfield Mall an extraordinary place. Its commitment to the local arts scene is impressive: Tenants include Dramatic License Productions, which features local professional theater, and Fusion, which offers a range of art, crafts, music and community classes. The usual suspects are at the mall as well — Forever 21, Sephora, Gap, American Eagle, Sears, Macy's — as are higher-end brands such as Williams-Sonoma, Banana Republic, Coach and Pottery Barn. Plus Chesterfield Mall boasts a fourteen-screen theater, expansive food court and several anchor restaurants, which makes it a one-stop hub for kids' birthday parties or date night, respectively, of course.
