Wabash, Frisco & Pacific Railroad
Grand Ave. and Second St., Wildwood, MO 63038
(636) 587-3538
Many attractions in St. Louis are incredibly popular — sometimes so popular that it's difficult to enjoy them for all of the crowds and the pushing and the rudeness and the shouting (we're looking at you, irritated parents). That's why a trip aboard one of the Wabash Frisco & Pacific Railroad's tiny twelve-inch gauge trains is the most delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. This railroad has been chugging along through the woods and over little bridges at its current location in Wildwood since 1961; before laying tracks out in west county, the railroad operated closer to Lambert-St. Louis International Airport from 1939 to 1959. While you and yours certainly won't be the only folks aboard the open-air, just-above-knee-high passenger cars, you all will still be able to appreciate the nice breeze, the view of the Meramec River, the blooming wildflowers (depending upon when you visit, of course) and the enthusiastic conductors — these volunteers don stripy overalls and hats and everything! Tickets are just $3, so you'll have plenty of cash after your 30-minute ride to treat yourselves to a snow cone — there's a stand out by the ticket booth. Just don't tell anyone about this hidden treasure.
