A certain lady of our acquaintance prides herself on her familiarity with first-class hotels. "You must always make sure the bed is triple-sheeted," she instructed us. "The blanket must never touch your skin. Do you have any idea what else that blanket has touched?" Once circumstances beyond her control forced her to spend a night in a budget hotel where the blanket was not sandwiched between two crisp white sheets. The experience was horrifying. It nearly scarred her for life. This lady keeps with her a detailed list of her expectations of a hotel. These include the aforementioned triple-sheeting, high thread counts, 24-hour room service and housekeeping, a full-service spa, a health club and swimming pool (both "scrupulously clean") and an array of dining options, ranging from an upscale restaurant to a coffee shop. Should she ever deign to rest her head for a night in St. Louis, we would send her in the direction of the Chase Park Plaza. Yes, there are a couple of other hotels in town that can give her all that she's looking for (the Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons come to mind), but neither of them has the Chase's old-fashioned charm, or its movie theater or prime location at the corner of the Central West End and Forest Park. And since our friend would blanch at ever being called a snob, how could she possibly resist staying at the historic site of the long-running television program Wrestling at the Chase?
