Marche

86 Pine St., Seattle, WA 98101
(206) 728-2800
There are few nicer places to spend a cold winter night than Pike Place Market's Marche (formerly Campagne), preferably in a seat overlooking the Puget Sound. The French bistro fare here is sturdy and designed to complement the restaurant's smart list of affordable wines. A glass of red wine and Marche's terrific onion and Parmesan gratin—which is something like French onion soup without the liquid—is a better edible antidote to nippy nights than hot chocolate. The gratin is a bubbly cobweb of sweet onions and umami-rich cheese, and most reasonable eaters wouldn't object to eating it by the yard.
