Independent Pizzeria

Pizza is having a moment in a notoriously pie-passive town. While a plethora of big-name and certified Neapolitan places all over Seattle vie for your attention, consider instead this unprepossessing spot, tucked in the unlikely neighborhood of Madison Park. Run by a well-traveled former upstate New Yorker, The Independent Pizzeria is not trying for fame, but it is aiming for greatness. A simultaneously thin and airy crust succeeds, and easily makes for the best pizza in town. Really. The menu (and the place itself, for that matter) is teeny, but the flavors and textures will have you coming back for more. Try the arugula-topped prosciutto round, or a pie with anchovies, capers, olives, and Mama Lil's peppers. With a stone-covered wall and a view of Lake Washington, this cozy place also offers a small, carefully selected wine and beer selection to pair with your pie. -Adriana Grant 4235 E.
