Mike's Chili Parlor
1447 N.W. Ballard Way, Seattle, WA 98107
(206) 782-2808
There's New Ballard and there's Old Ballard, and Mike's remains reassuringly rooted in the latter. Sports fans, regular guys, and hipster-phobics will be pleased by Mike's unpretentious atmosphere and cheap grub. The building is a 1930s deco landmark just northeast of the Ballard Bridge, with a patio for fair-weather dining. Inside, the linoleum-and-beer-poster decor won't distract from yummy burgers, chili (natch), and something called chili pasta. The modest beer selection runs a few rungs above Bud, and there's even champagne (!) by the glass. Delicious fries appear to be handmade, while chili-friendly oyster crackers bear the official stamp of Nabisco.
