Best Secret Public Space

2012 Finalist See 2012’s Winner »

199 Fremont

199 Fremont St., San Francisco, CA 94105
Conceptual sculptor Paul Kos and poet Robert Hass collaborated with landscape architects to create the urban garden at 199 Fremont. The space features boulders -- the largest weighing 86 tons -- and a poem engraved on the garden wall. There are birch trees to calm and, depending on the person, a fountain which makes a "tok tok tok" sound, evoking the passage of time.
