For anyone whose first exposure to the inside of a brewery was a mammoth Budweiser plant and a sample of fizzy lager, the Anchor Brewing Company tour is like visiting the Musée d'Orsay. (If the museum had a tasting room, that is.) Commencing with a history of the venerable San Francisco firm and a guided stroll through the operation, the tour concludes with a leisurely ramble from one end of the company's varied and delicious product line to the other. Six ounces at a time, though the Anchorman or woman on duty won't begrudge you a second taste of a favorite brew. Tours are scheduled every weekday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., but reservations are essential and six weeks' advance is suggested. Great beer, comfortable vibe, no charge — why wait for the excuse of out-of-town guests?
