Best Mechanic

Anaheim's First Class Auto Center is one of many mechanic shops along the long strip of Lincoln Avenue. Even so, the garage of owner Mihai Torok's general auto-repair business is steadily filled with foreign and domestic cars and trucks in need of everything from tune-ups to brake jobs, smog checks to oil changes. Torok, a Romanian immigrant who has run the shop for 19 years, excels not only in providing reliable service, but he also creates a personable work environment in an industry well-known for its issues with the whole honesty and trust thing. Helping in that regard is his Salvadoran wife, Nohemy Torok, who works the front desk and greets customers with a "sir," "ma'am," "young man" or "young lady." Among its more recent achievements is whipping a 1994 Oldsmobile Achieva with nearly 300,000 miles back into roaring life. In addition to performing mechanical miracles, Torok enjoys getting his hands dirty in the kitchen, cooking Romanian and Salvadoran cuisines and everything in between—ask nicely, and he just might give you a bite.
