Best Tailor

We walk by various tailor shops every day where they claim they can restructure from the basic hem to the most complex attire, but if this were true, we're sure it'd cost an arm and a leg (there goes your outfit). The Upper East Side storefront at the Golden Star features a faded burgundy Victorian–like frock that is nicely displayed at the window, which makes us think that if they can tailor such heavy garments from the 1800s, they can handle anything, right? Right! From a long silk dress that simply needs to be taken in two inches to a complete alteration of a wedding gown, the tailors at Golden Star must have golden wands as sewing machines. Entrusting something as delicate (and vital) as a wedding dress might put you on pins and needles, but the staff, especially the owner, reassures you that all will be taken care of, because a little stitch goes a long way. 309 East 83rd Street, 212-734-0723 (10028)
