Truth be told, when it comes to selecting the best place to legally discharge firearms in New York City, there aren't a lot of options. For nearly 50 years, Westside Rifle & Pistol Range has been one of those few. Located in Chelsea between a high-end home-furnishings store and a strip club, it offers firearm virgins and expert marksmen alike a place to sight down the barrel of a gun and set off a small, controlled explosion. Your first visit costs $65, with subsequent trips running $35 each. That gets you access to a .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle, along with 50 rounds of ammo. There are other guns available, too, for an extra fee, and you can get marksmanship training for another $50 an hour. If you want to shoot something other than a rifle, the range will help you apply for your New York City pistol license.
