Sel De Mer
374 Graham Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11211

Sel de Mer is a pretty by-the-books seafood joint: Both its décor and its fish are simple and straightforward. But it veers into wonderfully unconventional territory with its fish-cake sliders, which come two to a plate and could rival any of their beefy counterparts for gutbombing capabilities. Two fat patties, made from hake and pan-fried, are served on toasted English muffins and accompanied by a heap of coleslaw. The cakes are crispy on the outside and ravishingly tender within, and play very happily with the house-made tartar sauce that oozes all over them. They're a mess, but some messes are awfully fun to clean up.
