Drom

The basement dancerie Drom celebrated its reopening in the spring after quietly shutting down more than a year ago. The time off did the space a service. Once just another bar hidden among the dives of the East Village, Drom has now fully embraced its original aim of bringing global dance music to NYC. The club hosts a cozy lounge that leads way into a gorgeous dance floor backlit by the warm flicker of bar lights and a Turkish chandelier that looms above. Here partygoers revel to the sounds of Middle Eastern acts, Latin DJs, and the local underground. We've seen progressive dance acts like the alt-Latin DJ duo Que Bajo and experimental club producer Brenmar play here, a sign that it won't be too long until Drom joins Santos and Public Assembly on the list of go-to spots for the city's favorite underground DJs and the people who follow them. 85 Avenue A, 212-777-1157, dromnyc.com (10009)
