Kitchen stores can be either overwhelming or overly fancy-or both. For those of us who aren't looking to stock a restaurant kitchen or become professional chefs, it can be daunting. But Williamsburg's Whisk manages to strike a nice balance for home cooks seeking high-quality nonfussy things. The store is manageably sized and bright, and the inventory ranges from the high-end-beautiful La Chamba soup pots from Colombia and Le Creuset casseroles-to the basic and necessary, like colorful modern sponges and funky aprons. It's also got a well-curated selection of cookbooks, including ones by Thomas Keller and Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and this fall, Whisk is hosting guest speakers including Momofuku Milk Bar's Christina Tosi and the guys from the Meatball Shop.
