Best Coffeehouse

Despite the onslaught of Starfucks and other pernicious chains, the East and West Village still abound in independent coffee shops, where locals, ex-in-the-office workers, strippers, millionaires, zillionaires, and folks who just want to read the paper in peace converge. We must be crazy to reveal to you the one that we hang out at, because for sure it'll be overrun. Yet here goes: Mojo on West Charles, not so far from the mighty river, has great coffee, unpretentious but competent barristage, and really distinguished bagel and pastry services. 128 Charles Street, 212-691-6656
