To describe the Minnesota Wild's season as "polar" isn't in reference to the temps outside the X on game nights. After going 20-7-3 in their first 30 games under first-year head coach Mike Yeo, the goal-starved Wild went 7-17-6 in their next 30 contests to play themselves out of Western Conference playoff contention. Not that Dany Heatley had much to do with the dearth of scoring. Acquired from San Jose in the offseason for popular Martin Havlat, the three-time NHL all-star proved to be one of the few constants on an injury-riddled roster. Working through myriad line changes, the "Heater" hadn't missed a game through early March en route to netting a team-leading 20 goals and 46 points for a squad that charted near the cellar in NHL scoring.
