Washington Square Grill in downtown White Bear Lake is a place we city-dwellers wish we could make our local watering hole. There's something going on every night of the week: happy hour every weeknight from 2 to 6 p.m., $12 bottles of wine Sunday through Wednesday, late-night breakfast Thursday through Sunday until 12:30 a.m., and Wednesday Import Night with $1 off all bottled imports. (And if you happen to drink a few too many bottled imports, the bar, which has partnered with a local cab company, will pitch in $5 toward your fare.) The restaurant's fireplace room with windows on three sides is the perfect place to cozy up with a pint during winter, but summer is when the place really hops, with the expansive patio where you can spend an afternoon basking in the sun and sampling the bar's flavored vodka and rum and homemade bloody Mary mix. Downtown White Bear Lake is not your typical suburb. It feels more like a small town than a strip mall, with independent storefronts, restaurants, and cafes. Washington Square Grill fits the bill, treating even urbanites like regulars.
