Best Place To Do Something For Free

When budgets are tight, it can be hard to find fun things to do that won't eat the measly contents of your wallet. This winter, the Art Shanties made a triumphant return to Medicine Lake with free shenanigans each weekend for all ages. This year's friendly frozen community featured basketball on ice, complete with motivational speeches, a fashion shanty where folks could pose for pictures and try on different looks from local designers, a shanty that published a newspaper regularly during the event, and the Naughty Shanty, which encouraged guests to bend rules and indulge in their playful sides. Each weekend visitors were invited to play, create, and interact with artists, scientists, advocates, and performers who had built their own shanty months before the event. We can't wait to see what whimsical new activities the Art Shanties will bring us — for free — in years to come.
