The Twin Cities notoriously lacks a late-night dining scene, with the few places boasting later hours still closing by 1 a.m. Yeah, there's White Castle for the drunkies and kooks, or Mickey's Diner if you want to drink a cup of coffee and philosophize like Tom Waits. But here's a little secret: The Taqueria La Hacienda Plaza location is open 24 hours every Friday through Sunday, with a large menu of Mexican favorites — the classic taco, burrito, and quesadilla — as well as specialty dishes with more exotic (to some Minnesotans, that is) ingredients and some authentic taqueria goodness. The dining room lacks any late-night tragic vibe; on the contrary, it's fun, fresh, and bright. On weekends only, try the lovely pozole (pork and hominy stew), perhaps a perfect meal for dining in the wee hours before dawn.
