Do not be fooled by the commonplace exterior—this tidy little storefront in an unassuming suburban strip mall holds some of the finest smokey ‘cue this state has to offer. Its mastermind is Charlie Johnson, a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America and an accomplished chef who has turned that refined training to humble, outrageously tasty food. The luscious pork ribs have a nicely spiced charred crust. They're salty, spicy, and sweetly smoked with a whisper of crunchy fat. While the sauces are properly served on the side, they are nothing to breeze past. For less than a dollar there is the pepper-vodka sauce, bright peppery dark and densely packed with flavor. For all those who complain that there is no good food in the suburbs? Please go check these guys out immediately. It’s most definitely worth the drive.
