Best New Theater

Los Angeles is teeming with theatrical talent that periodically coalesces into feats of artistic wonder but rarely matures into important cultural phenomena. Classical repertory theater company A Noise Within is that rare exception whose tenacity and virtuosity have earned it a major place in the arts landscape. Nearly two decades after beginning with forced simplicity in a make-do space in Glendale's Masonic Temple, the company, under the direction of Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, has a new home in Pasadena. The company raised $13.3 million, which helped to construct the 283-seat venue at the Stuart Pharmaceutical Building, built by architect Edward Durrell Stone. The new theater, equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, fully supports the company's proven craftsmanship and gives audiences a level of comfort and grandeur that matches the eloquence of its art. 3352 E.
