Some nights, you want to go to a movie theater and watch a six-hour Japanese film about schoolgirl samurais, and that's why we have Cinefamily. Other nights, you want to see a pristine print of a classic like Singin' in the Rain or 2001, and that's why we have the Aero and the Egyptian. But some nights you just want — nay, need — to see a brand-new mainstream movie, without braving a mall multiplex or facing a confrontation with the texting hordes that inhabit them. And that's why we have the ArcLight. It really can't be overstated how much better the experience is here over every other multiscreen theater in town, from the diversity of programming (3-D family films and action sequels play next to documentaries and indies) to the cleanliness, the comfort of the seats, the quality of concessions and audience etiquette. Angelenos know they can show up at local, hand-curated cinemas like the New Beverly without even knowing what's playing, because they trust that, no matter what, they're going to get a good time at the movies. The ArcLight is the only multiplex in town where people can do the same. 6360 W. Sunset Blvd., Hlywd. (323) 464-1478, arclightcinemas.com/locations. Also in Sherman Oaks, Pasadena and El Segundo.
