Best Drive-In For Remembering L.A.'s Car-Culture Heyday

Drive-in movie theaters may be dead on the Westside, but travel a little farther east and you'll find the Mission Tiki, alive and well. Built in 1956 and recently updated so that you're treated to double features on four Technalight screens and a high-tech sound system that transmits through your FM radio, the Mission Tiki is fun and kitschy enough that it's worth the drive. Guys in grass huts take your cash and, if it's light enough, you'll probably spot a few Easter Island–esque statues around the grounds. The tiki-themed snack bar, sadly, doesn't sell Blue Hawaiians, but you'll find traditional movie theater fare, including real, honest-to-God, old-style popper-popped popcorn.
