Oklahoma Joe's makes a brisket that has been decorated at the American Royal and other barbecue competitions. Sliced and flavored with barbecue sauce, it's the center of the Z-Man Sandwich. But the deliciousness does not end with a tasty cut of beef. The meat is topped with smoked provolone and two onion rings, creating a sandwich that spotlights all four major food groups: carb (kaiser roll), protein, dairy and fried vegetable. The item is named for Mike Zarrick, who hosted a sports-talk show on KCTE 1510 that Oklahoma Joe's sponsored in the late 1990s. One of KC's most popular barbecue joints, Oklahoma Joe's takes advantage of free media these days. The restaurant has been featured on episodes of Man v. Food and Food Wars, causing even longer lines than usual at the KCK location.
