We’re fully aware that barbecue is inherently a soulful, complex and much-revered dining experience in these parts, and yes, we’ve just recommended you procure the sacred meat at what is probably the last place you’d expect to be doling out soul. But hear us out: Whole Foods, and this location specifically, does a damn good job of smoking excellent cuts of meat. They throw together a mean sandwich and no, it won’t cost your whole paycheck. Pulled pork is juicy and full of flavor, sausage is house-made and sliced brisket is expertly cut by the butchers behind the counter. The Bakehouse buns may lack the buttery sheen that generally heralds good barbecue, but truly the magic here is in the meat. Whole Foods barbecue comes in individual portions, by the pound and even in the pan for catered events.
