Burger House
6248 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75214
(214) 828-2732
Since the original Snider Plaza location opened in 1951, Burger House cooks have been flipping patties and serving the addictive seasoned-salt fries, dubbed “Jack’s Famous Fries,” to the masses, who keep clamoring for more of the institution’s grub. The burgers come in myriad varieties, including three-tiered with mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. No mayo. No ketchup. Recently In-N-Out, just across 75, has tried to cut into the chain’s greasy glory, but the charming little shack on Hillcrest goes toe to toe with a similar product -- two thin patties, perfectly melted yellow cheese, fresh veggies and a lot of flavor. The soda selection's better at B.H, and the ambiance -- chipped picnic tables, walls covered in faded photos, three guys chilling in the open kitchen watching basketball -- makes In-N-Out's shiny plastic dining rooms feel like state mental hospitals.
